Thomas Hölzer was born in 1957 in Cologne, Germany where he began his studies of Fine Art at the Cologne Kunsthochschule. He later came to America to study at the famed Pilchuck School in 1984. Hölzer spent many years living and working in Boulder, Colorado, Taos, New Mexico and Maui, Hawaii.

He since has re-located to Germany.

Hölzer's artistic vision is expressed through several mediums: glass, mosaics, and paint. Each medium influences and inspires him in its own way.

Paintings are layered and built up with composites and mixed media until the anticipated result is achieved. His mosaics have been closely tied to his journeys along the rivers of the American southwest while his long years working in architectural glass are most closely linked to his imagination, the environment, and his two decades of exposure to the medium through the European and international Art Glass scene.

During the initial design phase, conceptual lines and shapes are captured in charcoal. When the early ideas are finalized, they explode on the chosen surface.

The essence of this approach is retained when Hölzer works on large scale architectural projects. Commissions and collaborations are researched in meticulous detail. By combining an innovative artistic approach with technical expertise, Hölzer's work is created with high aesthetic sensibility.
